Character values are important to our community and the Acuity Brands corporate value statements to create a culture based on trust, respect and fairness while working with integrity and honesty are key components of the “Bight Star” award.

Lithonia Lighting was established in 1946 by Sam Freeman in Lithonia, Georgia, producing a broad range of florescent and incandescent fixtures. In 1971 Lithonia made its entry into the fast growing high-intensity-discharge (HID) lighting market and established the Hi-Tek operation in Crawfordsville. The growth of the company was phenomenal and supported the acquisitions of many companies and products through the years that have made Acuity Brands Lighting a recognized leader in the lighting industry.

Having had a chance to recently tour the Crawfordsville plant, I was impressed with the clean work environment and especially the excellent lighting in the workspaces. I suppose when your business is lighting you have an advantage in applications of lighting fixtures, not to mention the manufacturer’s discount. There is no doubt that a workspace with great lighting is bound to be more productive and safe.

Another impressive feature was the high tech assembly machinery capable of all sorts of bending and welding functions all done automatically. I had been in the plant some years ago and was amazed at the progress in advanced manufacturing techniques the company had made. All this speaks well for the future of Acuity Brands Lighting which is directly related to the economic well being of our community.

We support each other when we buy products from local industries, the following is a list of the Acuity Lighting Group brands to look for when you purchase; Lithonia, Holophane, Gotham, Peerless, Hydrel, Antique Street Lamps, Metal Optics, SpecLight and Carandini.

Companies and communities that are to be successful in the new global economy will need to embrace these concepts and our second largest employer is on the right track.
As one of our “Bright Future” companies who make a positive difference, they have shown their support for the community. In return, we pledge our support with community cooperation, workforce development initiatives, infrastructure improvement and a spirit of partnership.

We are pleased to present this award in recognition of the companies past, present and future achievements and our commitment to Acuity Brands Lighting.
