MCED EXTRA
Press Release
(Crawfordsville, IN) - Montgomery County will be celebrating
the beginning construction of a new terminal building for
the Crawfordsville Municipal Airport on Thursday, July 24th
10:00 am at the Airport.
Dave Sulc of Nucor, Senator Phil Boots, Mayor Charlie Coons,
County Commissioner Phil Bane and others will be there with
their shovels.
The airport is currently under construction to improve and
expand the terminal apron area and fueling services. The terminal
was designed by local architect Akers and Associates and is
being built by Garmong Construction Services of Terre Haute.
Nucor Steel who generously donated the steel for the building
made terminal construction possible. Airport business proceeds
will pay for the remainder of the construction costs.
According to Myra Dunn, Aviation Board member and pilot,
“The half a million-dollar project has been in the works
for some time. The airport is a gateway to our community and
many of our local businesses depend on local airport services
being available.”
Bill Henderson, Executive Director, Montgomery County Economic
Development
“The airport is just as important as our roads and
we are excited that the aviation board has been able to find
a way to build this beautiful new terminal.”
“It’s an important development area for our community
and we do have it as one of our sites available for businesses.
MCED is working with the Aviation Board to attract aviation
based companies to the airport.”
“Myra Dunn has been a great champion for the airport
and we are fortunate to have volunteers like her and companies
like Nucor leading the way in making this new terminal building
possible. “
“I was at the airport in the late 70’s when the
first jet landed in Crawfordsville. It was from RR Donnelley
and it was so impressive to see that big jet pull up to those
little gas pumps. At the time, we had no jet fuel to sell
them and the pumps were mostly in the way. That was roughly
thirty years ago and I’m glad to see that we are updating
that part of the airport as well.”
“The airport is for everyone is directly tied to the
quality of life of a community.”
